New Book for 2022
Somerset Portraits and Voices
Discover the hidden traditions of Somerset’s artisans in Kate Lynch’s latest book.
Thirty unique crafts are captured in Kate’s distinctive paintings and drawings including the only sieve and riddle maker in the country, a bell rope maker, bee skep weaver, hedgelayers and blacksmiths.
Kate has also gathered together her conversations with these fascinating craftspeople, to ensure their story is passed down for generations to come.
An exhibition of Kate’s artwork is being held at the Somerset Rural Life Museum, Glastonbury, from 26 March – 5 June 2022.

"When we lay the steam over with a hook, it’s called pleaching in many parts of the country, but here in North Somerset in the Mendip area we all it ‘splashing’, that’s what the old guys who taught us called it. And the stem we lay down we call the ‘splasher."
